I have recently updated to the new soundcloud (which isnt very good mind you) but the one good thing is I now at this stage have unlimited storage, that means I have now done a massive update of the page and put a huge amount of long deleted mixes, remixes and edits up for your listening pleasure!!!!!

Funky Prestige Mix and a bonus Jazz Beat

I had decided a few nights back that I was going to do a live off of vinyl mix and I started to get some records together to record another jazz mix as I haven't done one for a while, I quickly decided that one of the mixes I had been really wanting to do was a Prestige Mix, but I had 2 dilemmas, 1. I knew there was already an amazing Prestige mix by Fatback from the SoulStrut Forums and 2. I didn't know how I was going to get the funkier prestige stuff I loved into the same mix as the straight Prestige stuff I also loved? The answer was kind of simple, as Fatback had covered the straight ahead stuff so well, I would stick to the funky organ stompers and dance floor monsters side of the prestige releases. So I gathered a bunch of records and pressed record and this is the result, scratches/scuffs and pops and crackles included! For those that don't know much about Prestige Records, this should be a great intro into their catalog, it includes cuts from jazz greats like Charles Earland, Sonny Phillips, Sonny Stitt, Patrice Rushen, Boogaloo Joe Jones, Melvin Sparks and Brother Jug Ammons, and the line up of some of the players on these recordings is like a who's who of jazz, think Bernard Purdie, Idris Muhammad and Candido just to name a few! bonus beats

Dirty Jazz Beat

I heard this bass line today when I had the record I sampled it off of playing whilst I was doing some work in the yard, for some reason I immediately thought of the D'Angelo track and thought I might do a remix with the beat. At this stage I cant get the vocals to sit so I kind of dubbed it out a little and this is what I came up with. When I get a spare few hours I will try to get it to work, until then this is how it will sit.

We have been wanting to do a tribute to this very under rated Dj/Producer for a long time, and last night a bunch of us got together and made this. Dj Spinna is a Brooklyn born and raised Dj, producer, remixer and artist. He began his recording career in 1994 as a member of the the underground hip hop group Jigmastas. Throughout his career he has broken down musical barriers between the worlds of hip hop, deep house, soul and jazz working with everyone from Mos Def, Masta Ace, Pharoahe Monch and Eminem, to Eric Roberson, N'dea Davenport, and Mary Mary to Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers and Sergio Mendes. He has other notable side projects to his credit such as the Polyrhythm Addicts, the Free Radikalz and his alter ego Chopp Master Flopp which have also been released. His mixtapes are legendary with mixes like Strange Games and Funky Things remaining as one of my all time favorite mixes. You will have to excuse some of the beat mixing as we had 4 people in a studio being drunk and disorderly and I really struggled to hear :) and of course as usual recorded off 100% vinyl in one take
