Ocky Got Soul

Another soul heavy mix from Ocky, this one is already in high rotation round here

Fish Eye Lens, Goldfish Memory Pt 2

I never said i was a god photographer, I did how ever say I had a terrible memory, so i took many shots whilst i was away so i can remember at least some of the things i was able to see and some of the many cool people we met along the journey.
I might add more if i get motivated. There will be 4 new mixes in the coming week also, 3 from ocky (so you know they will be heavyweight) and one very special suprise mix!!!!

New Inkswel Mix!

jazztronik - warp
4 hero- hold it down (bugz in the attic remix)
jose james- black eyed sun (ig culture remix)
karizma - i c u
sekoya- freestyle
souleance- le monde

bembe segue and mark de clive lowe- turn the light

For those that dont know Inkswel, be sure to check his latest release from WaxMuseum Records
WMR-001 – Scienz of Life – Applause (Clap Your Hands) b/w John Robinson – Shut Em Down 7”

Staring the slow extinction of traditional record stores down both barrels, Australia's own Wax Museum Records makes a defiantly bold move by releasing their very first slab of vinyl; a 7" that links Melbourne-based producer Inkswel with New York underground legends Scienz Of Life.

Blunted headnodic beats are the order of the day, with Inkswel serving up two premium-grade joints of Dilla-esque hip-hop for your ears. Lil' Sci & ID4 Windz rhyme divine over heavy hand-clap percussion and exotic samples on 'Applause (Clap Your Hands)', then Lil' Sci takes the helm solo as John Robinson on the flip over slap-chopped abstract jazz flutes on 'Shut Em Down'. Fresh graphics from the Project Mooncircle crew make this a highly-collectable limited-edition release with only 500 being pressed.

So while everyone else is jumping on the MP3 bandwagon, Melbourne's vinyl preservationists are preparing to hit you with a slew of hot new releases strictly on wax only. Even if you are rocking Serato these days, you're still gonna need this killer new 7" for your crate.

Here is some press already hitting the web in Europe!

Electric Eclectic

Another Doobz mix, this one is very much on the electronic tip, and i cant recommend it enough, its a little rough around the edges in mixing, but the track selection is serious!

RIP to a True Master

Well as some of you may know, on September 19 2009 one of the worlds best passed. Anthony "Roc Raida" Williams was truly some one very special. The dj world is fairly cut throat especially the battle circuit, but Roc Raida was that guy that every one only ever had good things to say about, his stage charisma was exceptional, his skills were truly inspiring and most importantly he was incredibly musical. The word icon is often miss used to describe dj's, but I would bet my life that there isnt one credible dj out there that would not tell you Roc Raida should not be in that category. So to celebrate the life of some one that never failed to inspire me, i bring you these treats.

OC Times Up
Roc Raida did the cuts on this seminal hip hop track, many dj's still today try to emulate the patterns he used.

Roc Raida Intro Dj Honda II lp
These cuts were always where i wanted to be as a dj, funky, musical and meaningful, with a street edge!

The Lump Lump Sadat X
Another great track, and more on point funky cuts from the Grand Master!

Turntablist Anthem The X-ercutioners lp
Another sure shot Roc Raida release, the whole X-errcutioners lp was littered with Roc Raida magic, this is just one of the highlights!

Roc Raida v's Mystery dj - Cues Hip Hop shop
IThis is the battle stuff Raida really excelled in, the juggles on this are mindblowing!

The Jungle Brothers - How you want it we got it (the native tounge remix)
This track features Roc Raida on the production! Seriously dope beat, not many people realize that Roc produced, fewer realize that he has produced beats for people like Big L, Show & Ag and many more.

Bonus Beats, some clips of Raida doing what he did best!

I promised y'all this

last but not least for this update is part 2 of the other live sammy b and dL mix from the bull and bear that i posted back in april

dj Suu!

This is a shortish mix from my good friend Suu, you may recognize her from the First In Flight Mixtape (Suu did the second half of that mix), or you may have been lucky enough to see her rock a dance floor in one of the many places she plays at around adelaide. Either way, Suu gave me this mix quite a while ago, I believe it was the first mixtape she recorded into her computer and was only done as a trial, but i liked it so much i asked her if i could post it up on here. This is how mixtapes should be made, recorded straight from the mixer and all off of records!

Long time listener, first time caller

For those of you that don't yet know Inkswel, this mix should help you to get familiar with a name I am sure you will start to come across more and more in the coming months, as the man is starting to get the attention around the globe that he deserves. If you are a fan of progressive hip hop, future soul and broken beat, (or like me just a fan of good music regardless of genre) this is going to be in high rotation. edit when i say quick mix i mean it was recorded in one sitting, running time is around 71 minutes, contains hip hop, soul jazz afro and more, music quality on this is awesome!

Coming soon 2 more live Bull and Bear mixes from Ocky and Alex!!!

Bonus beat, this will be up for 24 hours only, a quick preview of a track i am working on, it is still a little way off of completion yet, but i thought i would allow a quick preview for those that check the site on the regular

For Doobz The Slow Burners Tape Side 1

Photobucket

This one is a special mix, my man doobz is about to embark on a journey around Australia in his trusty Combi van, so I decided I would make a mix for him to listen to before he goes. As it is specifically made for him there are some Doobz cuts and such that you will have to put up with, but I am sure you will barely notice. This mix is fairly different to what i would normally do so I hope you enjoy it as much as I am sure doobz will.

The End Of One Thing Is the Beginning of Another

Finally a new update for the people, this one was worth the wait though! I am very happy to present a mix recorded live at the Bull and Bear in Adelaide, your dj's are Ocky, Alix and myself, this was a very special evening to those of us that have been involved in this great venue for a while now. I will upload it in 4 parts each running around the 70 minute mark, unfortunately the first 2 parts that I have converted are parts 3 and 4 so i will try to get parts 1 and 2 uploaded tonight, that way you will be able to tell just how drunk we actually ended up :)

disclaimer
any mixing mistakes were definitely ocky's!
part 3

part4

Sunday, May 17, 2009

The one thing I didnt have on this blog was a straight hip hop mix, this mix well help cover that. I have been hassling Admin for quite a while to get me a mixtape, but he is like big foot, not only because of the facial hair, but because sightings of him are rare and he hardly ever emerges from his cave. All that aside, the guy knows his hip hop, as this mix will definitely point out, running at 2 and a quater hours its a non stop mix of pure quality underground hip hop, but on the chill out tip. artist include atmosphere, dj shadow, pharcyde, blackalicious and many many more.

also if you havent heard AD's beats be sure to check out Dialects album, or the admin and vella ep, or the maintain releases, or anything else he has done
