Have had a very productive day in the studio today, so I thought I would post up some stuff I have been working on lately. Every thing is unmixed/mastered, so its pretty raw, but for now its all I got.
this one still needs another key line, but I have been messing with the arrangement and drums so I thought I would put it up for some feedback. Bass is courtesy of Mr Evan Whetter
What is a strictly vintage throw back mix you ask? Well for this one a few of us got together and pulled out some of our personal favorite 90's era tracks, some well known and some not so well know, lots of double copies and mistakes and all recorded live! Free download as usual
This is the mix that myself and my good friend Inkswel made together a few weeks ago, all edits were done in house, all off of original vinyl pressing's, so no mp3's were harmed in the making in this Boogie Bash Mixtape! free download (you know it!) I try to keep my content as exclusive as possible, by which I mean mixes that either I have done or a close friend has handed to me. This way I dont have post here that you can see on 100 other blogs, but every now and then I make an exception, and this mix, this is one of those times! Well it was decided by the majority (and by majority I mean the people that responded on facebook) that the next mix was to be a reggae mix, and as today is the official beginning of summer down here in South Australia I though what better than to do a Summer Reggae mix for those longs days and nights on the beach! All recorded live off of vinyl as usual
Recorded live for Kiss FM Melbourne, All ads have been cut out (which is why some tracks start and end kind of suddenly). The first 30 or so minutes is all Guy Nice and then I take over to finish up, contains tracks from Rakaa, Looptroop, Guilty Simpson, PPP, Diamond D, Celph Titled and Buckshot, PBody, Decades, Black Twang and a couple of my own instro's!
2 updates in a weekend!!!! Here is one for the jazz fans, a mix I put together today using only Blue Note jazz records, strictly vinyl, with lots of pops and crackles at no extra cost.
Well, it turns out I was wrong I havent been able to do much more on the music tip lately, with the exception of a soul mix that is available via password only. But we did manage to get together the other night and record a mix of some of my personal favorite The Roots tracks, every single album (except one, and who ever can tell me which album that is gets special bonus access to said soul mix) is represented on this mix, from the 1993 debut of Organix all the way through to this year's How I Got Over, it also contains some rarer remixes and so on to keep every one happy. As usual it was all recorded live and strictly using vinyl.
bonus beat, my remix from a few years ago of the Roots Dont See Us track

Its been a little while between updates, but i just finally purchased a replacement turntable for my faulty 1200 and should be able to post a few more mixes in the coming weeks, in the mean time this one was done by biz and doobz a few weeks back, called the migraine remedy for good reason, its a great listen and has been on very high rotation in my car for a while now.
This is a shout out to my famous time management abilities (or lack thereof :)), its a very heavily jazz and soul influenced (mainly) hip hop mix, a lot of instrumentals and a few surprises, as usual all freestyled and strictly vinyl! tracks from Jazz Liberatorz Def Jeff Apollo Brown Madlib Kero One Peanut Butter Wolf Zoo Madvillan (Remix!) Dialated Peoples The Roots Kev Brown Ta'Raach OutKast and more
Its been crazy busy, but we were finally able to get around to doing another mix for those of you that are into that kind of thing. As our good friends from Wax Museum Records have now opened an Adelaide store, we rolled through and picked up a few tasty treats, so we decided to make a mix from those treat. Mix includes tracks from artist like Ed OG and Pete Rock through to Just Ice, Eaze E and even tracks from Mitsu, Muro and Dilla and heaps more!
If you cant make it to the new store peep the online store here http://www.waxmuseumrecords.com.au/shop/

A new mix is definitely on its way for those who care, but to keep things ticking over I have uploaded a beat I made the other day, its not finished and has only been very roughly mixed, but I thought I would put it out there for some feedback.
For the more frequent visitors you would probably have noticed that it seems to have slowed down a little around here lately, I have been getting ready for the arrival of my second child, very exciting times! There are a couple of produced mixtapes in the works at the moment, but they will be getting done when I have time, which might be a little while, so I have decided to give people a look into the instrumental project I am working on at the moment, all the beats are heavily jazz based and are only rough versions at this point in time, I am hoping to have the release finished by around September, so stay tuned.
ps if you need alternative links let me know peace dL!
I have to say I am a little surprised that the last mix of instrumental beats was not downloaded any where near as much as we thought it would be (i used to get asked 3-4 times a week for instrumental mixes), but despite this we still decided to get together and make another 70 minutes of instrumental goodness, this one features tracks from Jazz Liberatorz, G.O.A.T.S, Pete Rock, De La, Dr Octagon, The Roots, Madlib, Lord Finesse, OC and more
Lots of music for you guys this update, first up its an 80 minute mix of all instrumental hip hop, includes instro's from every one from Group Home (Dj Premier), Phi Life Cypher, EPMD, Gagle, Supernatural, Common Sense, Dj Honda, A Tribe Called Quest, Dilla, D-Styles, AZ, Nine, Diamond, Buckwild and more! Blunt Instrumentals by Decades mixes
Next is the Decades appearance on the legendary Melbourne hip hop radio show Top Billin' (RRR) hosted by Dj Sheriff Rosco and Lee Rawls, it contains a hour or so dj mix by myself and a small live showcase from Decades http://www.facebook.com/pages/Decades/121246101226322 Decades RRR Top Billin by Decades
ps the Fairtilizer link is the complete 2 hour show, where as the soundcloud link is only the 1 hour of Decades.
speaking of Decades, there is also another exclusive peak at the album, it is one of my personal favorite tracks too! this will only be up for a day or 2 so get on it asap! Yesterday Rough Version by Decades
So i made this beat and couldnt make up my mind what it needed to work, so i threw this Grap Luva acapella on it for reference, its a little rough around the edges, but i still like it. down load is high quality wav for any one that wants it Revenge dL remix by thedlch
This will more than likely be an ongoing thing now, I am sure there are quite a few people with similar taste in music to us, so we will keep recording these mixes when the guys get together. The majority have been hip hop lately, but there will be more afro/reggae/jazz and soul mixes in the near future. This one was once again recorded directly to a high quality metal tape for that old school feel and features rare tracks from Delta (yes for the kings is fnally on a mixtape), BDP, Slick Rick, Urban Poets, Reference Point, Public Enemy, Tuff Crew, The Creators, Busta, Show and AG, EPMD, 3rd Bass and more. FREE DOWNLOAD!
in 2007 I was asked to do an underground version of the Bee Sharp records promo mixes (remember them?!) it was meant to feature Inkswel (as a rapper non the less), Dialect and a few other guys freestyling over the instros but never got off of the ground due to some political moves (from what i was told anyway) , tracklist features music from madlib/lootpack, 3rd bass, delta, 7L and Esoteric, Aesop Rock, Peanut Butter Wolf, Mhz Crew and even some little interludes from yours truely.
Its not very often i post anything other than mixtapes on here, but over the past few months myself and good friend biz (aka toobiz aka the pirate of richmond aka worst guy ever etc) have been putting in some time in the studio making some music that we are truly prepared to stand behind. Both of us have been very active in the local music scene over the past 8-10 years, both of us are part of 7 piece Jazz/Funk?hip-Hop band , both of us were involved in Mindfield (Crackhouse) and both of us have also had other side projects to keep us busy over the last few years, but we also both seemed to want to try and push our music into some different directions, and over time we have realized that direction was very similar, so we have formed Decades, below is the first releases we have to offer, the first is a quick sneak peak at the title track from the album and the second is a free track (available in wav and mp3 format) entitled Enjoy the Ride, we have chosen these 2 tracks to start with as they offer what we feel is a good insight into some of the range we feel we can offer. please feel free to leave any feedback, be it positive or negative peace dL
I am most definitely a newb when it comes to reggae, but i put this together quickly last night for people like myself and some of my friends that like soul and funk inspired reggae/dub and reggae/dub inspired hip hop
It was mine and my man doobz's birthday over the week end, so we caught up on Sunday night, put a 100 minute tape in the deck, pressed record and four of us played a few tracks, apologies for part 2's 10 minute Diamond D juggle we thought the tape was about to run out :)
This is the second half of the mixtape I made the other day, I re-recorded it thinking a needle had played up, but it turns out it was the tape we recorded it on, so I have uploaded it anyway, as with the last side, this was all recorded live, all freestyled and all off of vinyl. The mix is my small tribute to some of my favorite NY beats from days past to present.
Tracklist Jingle Jangle The Legion Stages and Lights Sadat X Fakin Jax INI Power Of Nine Ether Scienz of Life A Little of this Grand Puba Come Widdit Ahmad Ras Kass and Saafir All Love DITC Through these veins Afu-Ra Haagen Daz The Boulevard Connection Priceless All City
So the other night we decided that we needed to make a Japanese Hip Hop mixtape, so we burnt down a few, put a tape in the deck and went for it. All recorded live in doobz's kitchen (with the speakers in the lounge for that added rawness), so there are a few little hiccups in the mixing, but the tape still bangs! The other side should be uploaded soon (we had a small issue with one needle only coming through on one side so I need to try and fix that before i post it)
the tape features tracks from Mitsu, Gagle, Gortex, Dj Muro, Dj Krush, Grooveman Spot and many more
A quick mix i put together to get to know some of the Afro records I have purchased lately, I may still change it yet as I am not sure I am 100% happy with the outcome, but i have upoaded it in the mean time enjoy
Well updates have been few and far between lately, but this one should keep you going for a while, all recorded onto analogue tapes (so tape 1 and 2 will fit perfectly onto a 90 minute tape and tape 3 and 4 will fit perfectly onto a 100 minute tape), this was all recorded live on Friday night, so the music does change up with what was happening, but dont let that put you off, i have been bumping these in my car and it is easily some of the best car mixtapes I have listened to! Totaling just over 3 hours there is every thing from Japanese Hip Hop (Grooveman Spot, Mitsu and so on), Jazz (Art Blakey, Horace Silver etc) Soul (Ruth Brown, The Sylvers, Marvin Gaye, Dorris Duke etc) Afro (Ice Cream, Fela Kuti, BLO, and more) , there is alos some good old fshioned boombap hip hop, (even the rare Ahmad, Ras Kass & Saafir Come Widdit remix and the Afu Ra Through these veins and heaps more), its just a shame we managed to miss the first hour due to a tape pause issue :)
This mix will be available for purchase soon as a packaged CD with some incredible art work and more, in the mean time please enjoy!
Time and Place: New York City in the early eighties. Against a backdrop of crime, poverty and drugs, creativity thrived. From the birth of Hip Hop uptown, to the refinement of modern DJ techniques in the downtown clubs, more advancement happened during this time than any other period in recent history. This mix pays respect to that era through the underground music of the time. From Hip Hop flavored boogie to straight up club records that would become the building blocks for house music… this was a special Time and Place!
